Why Talking About Strategy “Execution” Is Still Dangerous

This is an excellent article on the importance of creating great strategy before beginning to execute the strategy.

“Operational tough guys like to tease effete strategy types by voicing the claim that: “A mediocre strategy well-executed will always trump a great strategy poorly executed.”  It’s a good sound bite, to be sure, but how can they tell that a strategy is “great” if it is “poorly executed” and presumably produces mediocre or worse results? They can’t.”
